Sir,

In reply to your Despatch No. 254 of the
16th. ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that the rate
of 10 cents per 1,000 gallons referred to in the letter from
the Admiralty of the 6th. ultimo as charged to the Military
Authorities here, is based upon an agreement made with the
Military Authorities many years ago, by which they relinquish
to the Colonial Government a water tank which obstructed the
construction of the existing Albany Filter-beds. This special
rate only applies to water supplied by gravitation in Hongkong. t
In the case of Military Properties to which water is pumped
or which are situated in Kowloon, the usual charge under the
existing Water Ordinance of 50 cents per 1,000 gallons is made.
Under the Ordinance referred to the charge for water to the
Naval Authorities in common with the Civil Community has been
increased to 50 cents per 1,000 gallons.
I have the honour to be,
sir,
Your most obedient
Humble servant,
Henry asshahe
